Why?
As the sport continues to grow, it is clear that breakaway ropers need more opportunities beyond traditional rodeo. While rodeos can be exciting, driving countless hours for a single run just to chase a finals qualification is not practical or appealing for many competitors. Offering alternative events will allow ropers to compete more often, run more than one calf, and pursue their goals in a more accessible and rewarding way.
Can Breakaway ropers be numbered?
We believe that recognizing the wide range of skill levels and creating fair competition opportunities will encourage more girls to enter and participate. A numbered classification system also allows for flexible formats such as slide ropings, straight-number ropings, and side pots within open ropings.
What is it?
A series of breakaway ropings leading to a premier finals event.
The FINALE
In January 2027 The NBL Finals will crown a champion for each number on our classification scale, giving ropers of all skill levels a reason to enter events designed for their success. The more competitors who enter, the bigger and better the payout for everyone. For example, the fastest Number 3 roper on two head will be named the NBL #3 World Champion, and the fastest Number 1 on two head will be crowned the NBL #1 World Champion. These results can all be pulled from a single roping, just like running a side pot at a barrel race.
